A mixture of Italian ryegrass, kale, forage rape and turnips, broadcast in June or July for a large bulk of green feed in Autumn.
Nickerson Winter Green
A mixture of winter hardy Kale and forage rape designed to produce fodder throughout the winter. Sow by mid-July.
Fodder beet
Fodder beet has potential for producing very high yields with excellent digestibility and energy content. Crops in the region of 30-35 tonnes/acre of roots with an approximate dry matter of 17% are attainable. Tops can be grazed or ensiled producing a yield of around 18 tonnes/acre.
Stubble Turnips
Economic and fast to grow , the crop can be grazed 10-14 weeks after sowing. Strip grazed, they offer good mid season growth for dairy cows and are especially suitable for fattening lambs as part of the Nickerson Autumn Gold sheep feed mixture.
Turnips
A useful fodder crop suitable for late sowing, grown predominantly in Scotland and Northern England. Maincrop turnips can produce yields of 20-25 tonnes/acre at a dry matter of 8-10%. Increased yields can be expected when sown as part of the Nickerson Lamb Finisher mixture.
Swedes
A very adaptable crop for both grazing and storage. Grown on their own, modern varieties can also offer the option of being lifted for culinary use as well as livestock fodder.
Kale
A very adaptable crop providing useful forage, can be ensiled as kaleage or zero and strip grazed. It is very high yielding as part of the Nickerson Lamb Finisher or Nickerson winter Green sheep feed Mixture.
Forage Rape
A rapidly growing crop suitable for grazing after 12 weeks. It may be used as a nurse crop for grass seeds. Forage rape also produces exceptional yields. when sown with stubble turnips as in the Nickerson Autumn Gold mixture.
Forage Rye
Forage rye grows at a lower temp. then either cereals or grass seeds enabling an early bite , up to three weeks earlier than Italian ryegrass. It can also be grazed in Autumn. However it can soon get very mature and "stemmy" if the crop grows from Grazing livestock.
