Winter wheat growers from East Yorkshire flocked to a recent cereals open evening organised by Nickerson Direct, a company which supplies seed directly from breeder to farmer.

Held by kind permission of the Hodgson family on their farm near Patrington, the event was hosted by Alastair Moore, Sales Director for Nickerson Direct, which is based at Rothwell. More than 60 farmers from all over the region turned out on a fine summer’s evening to learn more about Nickerson’s current varieties and to view a selection of new genetic material which is currently undergoing evaluation in a commercial farm setting. During the evening, visitors were able to find out how to get the best out of the latest Nickerson winter wheats, ask a wide range of questions relating to selecting the most appropriate varieties to grow on their own farms, learn more about crop establishment and discuss agronomic issues.
