STROKE OF GENIUS YIELDS RESULTS FOR FARMER
Good timing has led one Somerset farmer to win two categories in a national competition. Mark Doble, who farms with his brother, Stuart and sister Kate near Ilminster, Somerset, won a laptop complete with Muddy Boots Cropwalker software after entering the Nickerson Einstein Challenge. The competition attracted 400 growers nationwide who collectively had 250,000 acres of Einstein winter wheat in the ground.
Mr Doble's winning crop of Einstein saw him pick up the highest yielding first wheat and and highest quality first wheat prizes and he believes that timing on his clay land is key to successful crop establishment. "We call it 12 o'clock soil - five minutes to early or late and it won't make a seedbed."
