Appaloosa is a spring barley with a very high yield potential both with and without fungicide treatment. It has no major agronomic weaknesses and has shown excellent potential for distilling.

Appaloosa has an excellent yield potential when fungicide treated, 8% above Optic and 1% above Cocktail.
Appaloosa has performed very well in the HGCA North east region, 3% above Cocktail & 8% above Optic.
When not treated with fungicide Appaloosa has a very high yield potential, similar to Cocktail.

Appaloosa is a moderately tall strawed variety and has shown very low levels of lodging when not pgr treated.

Appaloosa has very good resistance to mildew and the rusts; Rhynchosporium resistance is similar to Optic.

Appaloosa has a good specific weight.

Appaloosa has shown excellent distilling potential with a HWE similar to Optic and a low level of Glycosidic nitrile.
