Nickerson has its own breeding programme for Winter Oil Seed Rape, the UK's major oilseed crop and represents other breeder's varieties for Winter Oilseed Rape and some of the specialised oil crops such as Linseed and Linola.

Nickerson have a coordinated European Rape Seed breeding programme which targets three key markets: France, Germany and the United Kingdom. The UK arm of this programme is lead by Dr. Jo Bowman. Both hybrid and conventional material features in the Nickerson WOSR programme. The emphasis is on producing high yielding varieties with high oil content and sound agronomic characteristics.

• ATLANTIC is a conventional winter oilseed rape variety from the Nickerson breeding programme in Lincolnshire.

• LADOGA is a new, conventional variety bred in Lincolnshire by Nickerson (UK) Ltd.

• EXPERT is a conventional in-bred variety that has shown a high yield potential in official trials which, combined with its good oil content, has produced an excellent gross output.

• ONTARIO is a very high yielding, conventional oilseed rape variety with good resistance to lodging.

• WINDERMERE is a Linola (edible oil) variety , out-performing the conventional brown linseed variety Barbara by 2%.

• OSCAR is a conventional, brown-seeded linseed variety. It is a large seeded variety with short, stiff straw and medium maturity.

• EMERSON is a hybrid winter oilseed rape variety with a very high gross output, good standing and the best available resistance to light leaf spot.
