VIGOUR
Nickerson pioneered the development of vigour testing in the 1970s. Vigorous seed is better equipped to cope with poor, cold and wet seedbed conditions.
This is important for:
- Quick, even crop establishment
- Allowing the crop to grow away from soil-borne pests and diseases
- Stronger plants and more of them
- Higher yield
PURITY AND GERMINATION
Nickerson constantly monitor seed production to ensure that the quality of seed produced is significantly better than the official standard. In recent years Nickerson Original Cereal Seed has achieved the following standards:

Purity standards are a minimum of 10 times better than C1 HVS and 50 times better than EC minimum standards
QUALITY CONTROL
Nickerson are in full control of seed quality, ensuring unsurpassed levels of reliability. Having an in-house contracts department and production facility means seed crops are grown by selected growers, then processed to our demanding standards.
SEED FILM COATING
Seed technology is important in the supply of quality seed to the grower. Seed stocks are selected for their high germination and vigour. It is important that these attributes are maintained to maximise the genetic potential of the seed.
Seed Film Coating was developed by Nickerson as a technique to carry seed treatments on the seed accurately, enhancing germination and vigour. By improving drill flow it allows the grower to drill accurately a manageable plant population with even establishment. The incorporation of a Growth Promoting Agent (GPA) enhances the benefits of Seed Film Coating, resulting in higher yields.
GROWTH PROMOTING AGENT (GPA)
Following extensive field trials, Nickerson have introduced a new improved GPA. The new GPA assists rapid germination and good establishment.
This complements perfectly the high vigour and germination of Nickerson Original. This GPA is a blend of major essential nutrients ensuring a larger root system which enables the plant to absorb soil nutrients more effectively.
