Spring Barley

Nickerson are leading breeders of spring barley. Although based in the UK the programme has a very European flavour and is designed to enable selection and development of varieties for the key European markets. These include the UK, Denmark, France, Germany Sweden and Spain.

The barley breeding team is lead by senior barley breeder, Mark Glew. The team has an excellent track record of producing successful spring barley varieties for many different markets, for instance Decanter for the UK, Troon for the UK and Denmark and Henley for France.

• WESTMINSTER is a very high yielding spring malting barley with long, stiff straw.

• OXBRIDGE is a very high yielding variety with stiff straw, good disease resistance and full IBD approval for malt distilling.

• BELGRAVIA is a spring malting barley with a high yield potential, medium length straw and very good all-round disease resistance.

• DECANTER is a high yielding spring malting barley with very stiff straw and good resistance to ear loss and brackling.

• APPALOOSA is a spring barley with a very high yield potential that has performed especially well in the HGCA North and East regions.

• CONCERTO is a very high yielding spring malting barley which is likely to appeal to both brewers and distillers and is currently under test by the IBD.
