Deep Rooted Oilseed Radish with BCN Resistance

Doublet is a deep rooted oilseed radish that can help improve your soil by helping to reduce soil compaction.

Doublet can also be used as a soil biofumigant. Incorporating fresh green cover crops such as Doublet oilseed radish into the soil, releases chemical substances that are able to suppress soil-borne pests and diseases, as well as fungal pathogens and weeds.

The soil will also warm up quicker which enhances biological activity.

Doublet also has Beet Cyst Nematode (BCN) resistance, so is safe to sow if BCN nematodes are a problem on your land. Nematodes can damage crop yields and are confirmed by analysing soil samples in a laboratory.

Doublet is very leafy at the early stages of growth and is easily incorporated for maximum nematode control. It also club root tolerant, so can be safely grown on areas of land where this is a problem.

Doublet produces a long tap root of up to 1.5 to 2 metres deep, which will help to improve the soil structure and reduce soil compaction. It also benefits from being frost resistant up to -6 degrees C, so can be successfully grown in cooler climates.

  • Biofumigation works best on light textured, low organic matter soils.
  • Doublet can be sown from July onwards to the end of August.
  • Sow at 25kg per hectare for heavy soils and 20kg per hectare for light soils.

Doublet is recommended for smallholders
